The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

Much before Harry Potter, there was a young witch names Mildred Hubble who attended Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches. She was a misfit because she could not ride her broom properly and was afraid of the dark. But when the need arrived, she rose to the occasion and saved her school.

This was my intro to Jill Murphy's highly successful series. Liked it but it doesn't have a character at par with my favourite Potions professor.

Ethereal 2016 Reading Challenge

Last year, I had great fun reading for the Ethereal 2015 Challenge hosted @ RIEDEL FASCINATION. This year, I am signing up for its 2016 version. My goal remains the same: Intution which means I'll be reading 5-10 books for the challenge.

I love how our hostess describes the challenge:

... “Ethereal” is a home for everything under the sun that goes beyond the black & white.  If you are among the millions reading about haunted houses, psychics, witches and endless variety of serious literature:  healing, dreams, miracles;  I invite you to our group.  We leave nothing out, even those darned vampires.  Fantasy is otherwordly and children’s literature has magical animals.  Clergywomen and clergymen heroes suit our spectrum too.
All we need is a spark of mysticism or spirituality.  I hope you will join my warm, friendly circle.

23rd March: In Remembrance

Today is the day when India lost three of her most glorious sons: Sukhdev, Bhagat Singh, and Rajguru. They died so that India could be free and today India repays them by calling a budding politician, notable only for certain speeches that he has made recently, Bhagat Singh!

I would rather read a book than pay attention to such political dirt. And so Understanding Bhagat Singh, a collection of essays by noted scholar Prof. Chaman Lal which makes accessible Bhagat Singh to the lay man. I had problems with some of the views of the author but overall liked the book.

Sign-Up: Mount TBR Challenge 2016

Last year, I failed to climb even the smallest mountain in Bev's Mt. TBR Challenge My Reader's Block. Hoping to rectify it this year. Signing up for Pike's Peak once again.
